HOW TO CREATE A CATEGORY PAGE IN BLOGGER

If you like to create a page that automatically shows all the posts in a certain Category or Label in Blogger. Aka you want to create a Category Page in Blogger.

You may have already tried to do this by creating a page with the same name as the Category or Label. And that didn’t work. It’s just a blank page.

This is because you can’t “create” Category Pages in Blogger .

It’s an automagical process that the system does for you.

It’s great the system just creates them automagically. But you have to know how to use these automatically created pages and add them to a menu or other link like a Promo Box.

If you’re confused about this, you are not alone!

This is probably the most common support question we get from our Blogger/Blogspot users.

We do cover this in our template setup tutorials but I also wanted to write a quick how to post for all Blogger users who might not be using our designs.

So, here goes. How to add Category Pages to your Blogger site using the automagical pages created by Blogger!

STEP 1: ADD LABELS TO YOUR POSTS

In order to have Category Pages, you need to have categories assigned to your posts.

The Blogger system uses a very simple, non-hierarchical system to allow you to group posts by similar topic. They call this system “Labels” .

Non-hierarchical means there are no sub-categories , just a single level of categories. This is kind of a shame, but it does keep things simple.

HOW TO ADD A LABEL TO A POST:
1. Go to the Blogger Dashboard.
2. Click on the “Posts” link on the left-hand side.
3. Click on the title of the post to edit.

4. In the Post Editor, on the right-hand side, are the Post Settings.
5. Click on the Labels settings.

* HINT: Labels are sensitive to spaces and capitalization.

Featured and featured are NOT the same in the eyes of Blogger.

8. When done adding Labels, click the orange Update button at the top of the Post Editor.

STEP 2: FIND YOUR CATEGORY/LABEL PAGE URL (AKA WEB LINK)

There are 2 ways to find the link to your Category or Label Page:

METHOD 1: LABEL GADGET

If you already have a Label gadget installed on your blog in the sidebar, skip to step #6.

Note: Your Layout page may look a bit different depending on the template you are using. But the principles are the same.

1. On the Blogger Dashboard, click on the Layout link in the left-hand column.

2. Find your sidebar area and click on the Add a Gadget link.
